Mauer Signs Extention
By Matthew Klein
Joe Mauer has just signed a 8 year $180 million deal to stay in Minnesota until 2018. Not only is this good for the Twins but it is also good for Baseball. Mauer could have easily, waited till the end of the season to test free agency and go to either the Yankees, Red Sox or the Mets. But with their new stadium opening the Twins were not going to let that happen. He is the franchise player and without him people would probablly not even come to watch the games.
Mauer, who was drafted by the Twins as the No. 1 overall pick in 2001 has a career batting average of .327. He was almost unanamiously named the 2009 MVP batting .365 with 28 home runs and 96 RBIs. He is a three time all star and two time gold glove award winner and also is only one of ten players in history to have three or more batting titles. A press conference will be held Monday night at 6 pm when both Mauer and the Twins will speak.
