QB Shaun Hill Traded To Detroit

After the resurrection of Alex Smith, Shaun Hill saw his role diminishing as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

Hill started the first six games last season in San Francisco and threw for 943 yards and 5 touchdowns before losing his job to Smith, the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Head Coach Mike Singletary announced last month that he would stick with Smith as the starting quarterback and the team signed David Carr on Monday, making it all but official that Hill's days as a 49er were numbered.

Detroit used the first overall pick in last years' draft to select Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, however, Stafford ended last season on injured-reserve and the team is looking for an ideal backup after neglecting to resign Daunte Culpepper.

The 49ers will receive a seventh-round draft pick, according to The Sacramento Bee, a local newspaper for the 49ers.
