Marlins Add RHP Vazquez
By Justin Worsley,
The Florida Marlins have signed right-handed pitcher Javier Vazquez to a one-year deal on Sunday.
Vazquez, 34, went 10-10 with the New York Yankees last season with a 5.32 ERA, one of the worst seasons in his career. His 10 wins were the lowest since 2002 and the only other time he posted a higher ERA was in his rookie season when his ERA was 6.00.
Regardless, several teams were reportedly interested in Vazquez including the Colorado Rockies, the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals along with Florida.
Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.
The Yankees offered Vazquez arbitration, however, he declined the option by New York. If Vazquez accepted the arbitration, New York would have been compensated a draft pick by whoever signed Vazquez.
In his career, Vazquez has a 152-149 record with a 4.26 ERA. During his first stint in New York in 2004, Vazquez was named to the All-Star team.
