By Justin Worsley,

The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to a one-year deal worth $570,000.

Nabokov spent the previous 10 seasons minding the net for the San Jose Sharks until the team released the 35-year-old last summer. The Russian native spent the first half of this season playing for Russia's KHL league. Last month, Nabokov left SKA St. Petersburg for "family reasons."

Nabokov must still clear waiver in order to join the Red Wings.

Both Red Wings goaltenders, Chris Osgood and Jimmy Howard, have been hampered by injuries this season. Osgood, the backup, suffered a sports hernia earlier this week and is expected to be out until at least March. Howard has a bruised right knee which has impacted his play.

Nabikiv went 8-8-5 with a 3.02 goals against average during his stint in Russia.
