Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane will miss three weeks due to an unspecified lower body injury suffered last Sunday.
Kane, 22, was avoiding a check in the opening minutes of the game when he instead checked himself into the boards and fell awkwardly. The 2009 All-Star did not return in the Blackhawks 4-2 win.
The loss of Kane, however, is a big blow to the defending Stanley Cup champions. Kane has 11 goals and a team-high 16 assists this season. Chicago is 15-12-2 this season, but has won seven on their last 10. Kane has 12 points in that span.
This is the first extensive injury in Kane's career. ESPNChicago.com's Jesse Rogers reported that Blackhawks head coach Joel Queeneville would not specify whether or not it was Kane's ankle that was injured.
